Family Reunification visa

Reuniting with Your Loved Ones in Mexico

The nucleus of life is family, and to bring you closer to those closest to you is the Family Reunification Visa. The visa allows spouses, children, parents, and other eligible relatives to join their loved ones in Mexico so that distance will never come between unity and the family.

A Border-less Life Together

To relocate to Mexico with a Family Reunification Visa is to do something beyond living in the same country—to share day-to-day life, vacations, and milestones with loved ones. From sharing a residence to forming lasting memories, this visa is a chance to strengthen ties with family while being surrounded by Mexican culture and warmth.

Family Reunification Scenarios

1. Spouse and Children Applying from Abroad
If your spouse and/or children reside outside Mexico, you can apply for a Family Reunification visa through a Mexican consulate. Important facts include:

  • Required documents: Apostilled and translated into Spanish certificates of birth or marriage.

  • Processing timeline: Up to 10 business days, but this will vary depending on consulate and demand.

2. Marriage in Mexico (Apply from Within the Country)
If you are already in Mexico and married here, you may apply under the “Family Unit” rule by switching from a visitor permit to a residency permit:

  • Processing may be quicker, as you avoid applying from your home country.
  • Many applicants complete this without leaving Mexico—some in just a few weeks.

Note: Procedures and timeline will also vary by consulate and situation, always check with your specific consulate or INM office for most update requirements
